The cookies

It was a warm winter day, in the city of Spyra where the setting of our story takes place. Now my job is to give you a bit of background on the city. It is a rather small spot, where the people are always jolly this time of year, Oh Yes! I forgot to tell you it is December 23rd just 2 days before Christmas.  Now back to where I was, everyone around here is jolly except for one old fellow, Scrooge. Now, you may think I’m making this up but truly on paper his name is Ebeneezer Scrooge.

To be fair, and fill you in here I’ll give you some back ground on Scrooge. He’s a very wealthy citizen, the wealthiest in the town. He owns the Coal mill on Mary Street.  You see, he has been alone long before I was born, but rumor has it that his wife had died near Christmas, and ever since he’s spent the holiday alone. There is not a light to be saw on the place when the 25th rolls around. He does not celebrate Christmas, Honokaa, or New years, and he never buys anything sweet especially on Christmas.

Oh Look! There is Molly and her brother Jacob; they’re the children of Bob and Marry Wallace. Coincidentally Bob works at Scrooge’s Mill, 12 hours a day, 364 1/2 days a year. After begging Scrooge this year for hours on end, Bob finally managed to get half a day off for Christmas. This will be the first day he has had off in 10 years working for Ebenezer.  Let’s go have a talk with little Molly and Jacob.

                “Why Hello children,” I said.
                “Hi sir,” replies Molly.
“Say what’s that you have there, Jacob” I ask
“Oh! We’re selling Christmas cookies this year. Would you like to buy some?”
                “Sure, how much are they?”
“A dollar for ten, sir,” Jacob replies gingerly.
“Sounds great, here you are my good fellow,” I say handing him a dollar.
“Golly gee thanks Mr.!” Jacob thanks happily.
“Merry Christmas sir,” Jacob says cheerfully.
“And a very Merry Christmas it will be, say what did you ask for from St. Nick this year?” I said.
“Daddy says he thinks Santa is going to bring Jacob and I each a new sled and some toys” Molly replies excitedly.
“Yeah,  and he said if we can stay up real late we might even be able to see him and his reindeer this year when they come to our house! I know I can stay up, I don’t know about Molly here she’s not feeling too well and it is almost Christmas Eve.” Jacob says excitedly.
“Oh well Molly I hope you feel better soon, and seems as though you’re quite excited this year. But I've got to get going I have some people to visit. You kids take care, and be sure to zip up your jackets. ” I say warmly.
“ OK sir, Merry Christmas!” Molly says with a smile.
“Merry Christmas, have a great holiday.” Jacob says before running off.
“And a very Merry one to you too, tell your Ma and Pa I said hello.” I say.
Well, I think that we should use this family to show what kind of a man Scrooge really is. Shall we go over and see the parents? Yes, ok let’s head over now and see Bob at the factory…

                “Merry Christmas,” random pedestrian says.
                “Same to you,” I reply.

“Oh sorry, I didn’t see you there.” I say excusing myself after bumping into someone.
“No problem, Merry Christmas to you,” a warm voice replies.
“As to you too,” I replied.
My, what a busy time of year huh? So many people, in such a rush to go practically nowhere, oh well tis the season after all. Anyways there’s the mill and it looks as though Bob just got off work. Let’s see what all the fuss is about.
“But Mr. Scrooge, it gets cold in that room after awhile, I’m sorry for putting an extra piece of coal in there. It was only 5 degrees in there.” Bob says to Scrooge.
“I don’t care IF IT WAS 50 BELOW! There is only to be two pieces of cola used a day, NO EXCEPTIONS!” Scrooge says angrily.
“Ok, won’t happen again Sir,” Bill apologizes.
“All I can say is it had better not, for your sake, Bobby.” Scrooge says calling out, while leaving down the street.
He seems rather upset about this; we had better leave him alone for now. Hmm  give me a minute; let me think about this…I’ve got it! I believe it is in our best interests to follow Scrooge so that you get an idea to what Scrooge’s manor looks like….Ah, there he is there, and it seems as though he has some Christmas carolers. I wonder how he is going to respond to that, let’s go see.
“ Ba humbug! Humbug! Humbug! Humbug! I'VE TOLD YOU GET OFF MY PROPERTY!” Scrooge says rudely.
“But sir, we’re just spreading some Christmas cheer,” an unknown voice replies.
“I don’t care leave now or I’ll call the authorities,” Scrooge says coldly.
“Ok sir, Merry Christmas to you too,” a voice replies hastily.
“Humbug,” says Scrooge angrily while the crowd begins to leave.

See, I told you didn’t I what kind of a man Scrooge is. Horrible isn’t it? Cooped up in that big empty house with nothing but his money; the nerve of such a man to be so mean and cruel. Tisk Tisk. Oh my, there comes Molly and Jacob again, and they’re walking up to Scrooge’s door. Oh I Can’t watch, no  please don’t make them cry….
“Who is it,” a voice demands from inside as the doorbell echoes.
“It’s Jacob and Molly Wallace sir,” they reply together.
“Whatever it I you’re selling, I don’t want any,” Scrooge replies.
“We’re not selling anything sir, we’d just like to talk to you for a minute, please,” Molly says.
“Oh fine if it will get you to shut up,” Scrooge says sharply as he emerges from the dreary house.
“Here sir, my brother and I would like to give you this plate of cookies, we thought you may want some. They’re really good,” Jacob says merrily.
“Oh, well you shouldn't have, I mean ummm…” Scrooge says.
“Just take them, no questions, just take.” Molly says hurriedly.
“If you insist,” Scrooge says while taking the plate.
“ OK, we've got to get going momma wants us back before dark and it’s almost sunset,” Jacob replies as he and Molly hurry off.
“Well, what am I to do with all of these?” Scrooge says aloud.
Did you see that?! That’s the first time in years that man has taken a kind gesture. Well, well, well maybe there is hope for him after all. Let’s go peep in his window and see what he’s doing.  Ok here step up on here on this snow drift. Shhh, listen… I can hear him talking to himself.
“Well what should I make of this? I have done nothing for them, why would they do such a thing for me? Could this be what they call “Christmas spirit”? I thought “Christmas spirit” was nothing more than the need to spend valuable money. Perhaps I was wrong about Christmas for all these year, could I have been? Oh my, I had better start making it up to all the years I've missed out on. A man my age hasn't got many years to spare. I had better hurry, I have people to see and money to spend!”
Shh! Get down, he’s coming outside… OK  he didn't see us, he’s walking down the street let’s follow him, and see if this means what I think it means.
“Hello Mr. Scrooge,” a man calls out.
            “Merry Christmas Sir,” Scrooge replies.
“What, I mean excuse me?” The man asks stopping dead in his tracks, looking rather confused.
“I said Merry Christmas John,” Scrooge replies with a smile.
“hahahahaha! Merry Christmas!” The man replies laughing.
“And merry it shall be,” Scrooge says gingerly.
“ I've got no time to talk and explain, let’s just say things changed,” Scrooge says hurrying off to the Wallace house around the corner.
“Hello, just a minute I’ll be right out,” Bob replies form inside.
“Hello Mr. Scrooge, listen if this is about the coal today, I’m terribly sorry,” Bob says quickly while opening the door.
“No not at all Bobby, in fact use the whole box if you’d like tomorrow,” Scrooge says happily.
“I’m sorry sir,” Bob says while lowering his head.
“No, no Bobby, I was not being sarcastic, I came to tell you that you can take a week off after Christmas if you’d like. Oh and you will be getting a holiday bonus tomorrow at work.” Scrooge says merrily.
            “Sir?” Bob asks questioning him.
“Well, you see Bobby, your children had really shown me what the Christmas spirit is all about. They did something for me when they didn't have to, which is what Christmas is all about, correct? Scrooge says/asks.
“Why yes sir, that’s the idea of it,” Bobby says warmly.
“Then it’s settled Bobby, you now have doubled salary, a vacation and one week of sick days, more if needed of course.” Scrooge says grinning.
“Oh my Merry Christmas!” Bobby exclaims.
“And a Merry one it shall be,” Scrooge says warmly.
And so, things changed around the city of Spyra. Scrooge was grinning, going Christmas caroling, and so on. The whole town was in shock for quite some time, until it seemed as though it was the way it had always been. Merry Christmas to you all.

Threads of lost time (time capsule)

In my time capsule, I would place five things. I would place an iPod (with 50 bestselling songs of 2012), a video of my friends and I, a Canadian flag, a USB drive with the 5 best movies of our time (refer to my other post to see list), and last but not least the Xbox game Halo 4.

There are numerous items one could pick to place in a time capsule to be placed for 100 years. The things that I personally chose are things that I feel represent this country, as well as I a Canadian citizen of the year 2012.

I would place an iPod in the time capsule to show what we here in the 21st century listened to as music. It would show how, and what entertained us as individuals of our time period. I would place the iPod in the capsule with instructions of how to use it; I would place the best selling 50 songs of 2012 on the iPod to show what our genre of music was.

The second thing I choose to place in the capsule would be a basic video camera filled with pictures of New Brunswick, and a short video of my friends and me. In the video we would tell what it’s like to live in our time period. We would also explain what we do for fun and what we did as children growing up.

I would place the Canadian flag in the capsule just in case the flag aster in some way through the years. I believe it would show how we love our country, and show how patriotic we are in this time period.

The USB that I would place in the capsule would represent the technology as well as our best actors of our time. The movies in my opinion would show what we in this time enjoyed and entertained us. This would show what we are like as people.

The final thing I would place in the capsule would be Halo 4. I decided to put this in because it would show what I enjoy as a person. I like to play games and Halo 4 is my favorite game to date. Many teenagers of our time like to play games, like Xbox, PS3, Wii etc. So a game in the capsule would help show what entertained us as kids.

The items I choose I believe represent the people of 2012. These five items are what I feel represent me as a Canadian and the youth of the world today.

Letter

Dear People of the Future

Dear people of another time, today is December 3rd 2012. In this letter I will tell things about myself as well as about our time period. I have an abnormally large family, those of which I will not mention as this is going to be published online. Ok so that aside, I think you should know one thing about our time, it SUCKS!

The people of today’s society revolve around technology, we rarely communicate face to face, and we defiantly do not write letters. So take it easy on me, if you don’t think I wrote this letter properly; at least I tried.

Some things you should about our decade is that we here in Canada are a very “peaceful” nation. We rarely get into problems with other countries. Canada in my opinion is the best country in the world because of our patriotism and because of the spirit of the country.

In world history, recently there have been many problems in the Middle-Eastern countries. Countries like Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Egypt and Iraq etc have either been civil war, or war with other countries. Example; Afghanistan has recently been at war with America.

In positive, and ending of my letter, the world isn’t at any major war. So I’d say were doing pretty good.

Adventures of a child

Today I woke up and felt like going on an adventure, and I did just that. I figured I’d write my story down for my buddy Mr. Herbert. He's a nice old fella, and he lives over on Spooner St. Hey! Speaking of ole Herb, he's in this here story, here let me tell you all about it.

Like I said, I woke up and went for my adventure. I opened the front door and the adventure began. The first place I went was to Mr. Herb's but to my surprise when I opened the front door his house was empty. Apparently he had moved to another part of town. I was somewhat disappointed that he hadn't said good bye, so this is why I wrote this letter.

Anyways back to my story, the next place my journey took me was to a tipi, there was some pretty scary stuff in there. There were lots of sharp pointy things, hats, animal furs. The scariest part was the guide! He was huge, at first I ran away. He called after me saying he wasn't going to hurt me so I finished the rest of the tour.

When the tour was all done, I asked my new found friend the big fellow where to go, he then said I should go to the park. Taking his advice I went and played with all the kids that were there. I played for a few hours.

I got rather bored after being there so long, so I went out to find some more adventure. I searched numerous places around the neighborhood until I came to the woods. I was told to, "Never ever, ever go into those woods." I considered this but then concluded that if Christopher Columbus gave up on his adventure; I wouldn't be here now would I? So with that in mind I puffed put my chest and away I went. It was dark, gloomy, and damp. I quickly became scared. My imagination got away on me, and I began to picture dragons, wolves, Boogeymen and every other deformed character I'd ever see in a scary movie. I got out of there, as fast as my little legs would carry me.

Still scared, I climbed up a firm, solid oak tree. There I decided I would camp out for the night, in case I was being followed by unmentionable things. This of course lasted about thirty minutes when my boredom got the best of me. I then climbed down, and looked for something to quench my boredom.

I soon found a fellow human, I knew I had seen him before, and even knew his name was Glen Quagmire.  He was mowing his grass as I was passing. I sized him up and figured that he must have been a nice guy. So I spoke up, he at first couldn't hear me so he turned off the lawn mower. We then began to chat about pointless things; I believe adults call it "small talk"? Well anyways we didn't talk about anything worth mentioning.

While talking to Glen, I heard my mother's voice calling for me. As if on cue, my stomach started growling like a lion. I then hurriedly ran around the rest of the neighborhood at a quick pace. I located my house, and then proceeded to continue into my kitchen. There my eyes beheld a marvelous sight, a supper fit for a hungry adventurer. We sat, said grace then dug in. After supper I became very tired, I fell asleep on the couch where I dreamed dreamily dreams. My adventure was a complete success. Mission have fun all day accomplished.

Five Best Movies Of All Time

I have decided to choose what the top five movies of all time are. The movies will be chosen from my opinion and the movies earnings. The movies will also be based upon reviews, cost to make and screen effects.

Coming in fifth on our list is the movie "In Time". With an estimated budget of $40,000,000. The movie did surprising well in choosing the actors, and had many great camera effects. The movie was well edited and really had a lot to offer in story line, plot and setting making a profit of $103,200,000.

In fourth on our list was the film "Thor" I thoroughly enjoyed this movie in story-line and conflicts. With an estimated budget of $150,000,000. The characters fulfilled their rolls and then some. Making a nice sum of $449,326,618. I Really liked this movie!

In third on our wonderful list is "The Hangover" The movie was hilarious! With a budget of $35,000,000 the producers had money to spend. Getting amazing actors, setting, story-line. It's no surprise that the movie brought in a whopping $467,483,912. I really enjoyed this movie from start to finish. I nearly cried laughing.

In second we have "The Avengers" This action packed film wasn't just about action, it had a really good story-line as well. It had all of my favorite childhood superheroes. Spending approximately $220,000,000 the producers could do
practically anything they wanted. Bringing in $1,481,585,111.

I saved the best for last. Avatar. Simply loved it. I watched this movie three times. When the extended version came out I couldn't wait to get to the theaters. With a budget of $237,000,000. Making $2,782,275,172 it didn’t surprise me at all. They well deserved it for such a great job!

I strongly recommend these films, you will not regret seeing these movies. Save them for a rainy day, watch them tonight. I don't care, just see these movies! I honestly didn’t have anything bad to say about any of the movies they were all well done, after all they are the best five movies of all time in my opinion.

Finding Forrester

Finding Forrester, starring Sean Connery, and Rob Brown, was released on December 19, 2000. With an estimated budget of $43,000,000 Columbia productions did an astounding job, at creating this movie. The main actors (Sean Connery as Forrester) and (Rob Brown as Jamal) also did some magnificent acting, and really got the meaning of the story across to its viewers.

The movie is basically about a young man, who grew up in a bad neighborhood. The movie takes off when Jamal (the young man) is asked to change schools. Jamal then meets Forrester (a writer). After some conflict between the two, Forrester agrees to help Jamal with his writing. The two eventually become friends, but their friendship is tested numerous times throughout the movie. This leads us to the meaning of the story which is about friendship, devotion and determination.
This film is by far one of the best of its genre I’ve ever seen. However, with its budget I feel that the scenery could have been set a little better, to create a more intense atmosphere throughout the film. A movie that reminds me of this one is Coach Carter, the story and atmosphere is a bit similar. However, in my opinion it was the best movie in comparison to any others.

I personally found the quality of the film superb; the creativity of the film simply dumbfounds me. The acting was amazing, to say the least. I really felt as though I could connect with the characters throughout the course of the movie.

The theme, ah yes the theme. Many probably didn’t catch the theme, even though it’s clearly stated. When Forrester reads the piece about friendship written by Jamal, it really jumps out, though it hinted at this long before it clearly stated it. It hinted at it using Forrester’s and Jamal’s relationship, and the development of the relationship.

I give Finding Forrester two thumbs up, and a five star rating. It was an amazing piece of work (to say the least).

Review on the Review

http://www.reelviews.net/php_review_template.php?identifier=1931

This article was decent, I however wasn't the biggest fan as I found it spoiled the film. I also found that the author made to many references to different movies.

The article was somewhat hard to follow, also it told every detail and exciting point in the movie. The article may have been good for some people but for the average person I wouldn't recommend that paticular review.

I liked that the author made personal references in the article, and enjoyed reading those parts.

Writing Inventory

Writing Inventory In writing, I as many others have strengths and wekanesses. I do not consider myelf aa a strong writer when it comes to "essay" writing. However, I do enjoy doing narrative pieces. I find when I'm the narrator of the story that it is in my control, and can go in any direction I please. I do not write in my spare time, I usually only write when I'm really inspired or when I have to in classes. Sadly I do not really enjoy writing, as I find my imagination limited, but I do my best in all my pieces. I usually get my ideas for writing from past experiences, something that I have done, or heard about.

African Safari

African Safari Deep in the heart of Africa lies the subject of our story. A young male tiger, who has only just begun his life. Tigers are most definitely one of the most ferocious animals on this unforgiving place we like to refer to as Earth. Yet this creature in particular is not guaranteed another day, for it is still unconscious of the competition of his lives sole survival on this cruel planet we like to refer to as Earth. T’was the first day our subject’s first day that it has ever been alone, and yet it has already set out on it’s long journey, in search of where he belongs in this world. Yet nightfall is just around the bend. With no food within the past twenty-four hours the animal must find refuge soon, or it will have been a very shortly lived trip for our friend. Ah there he is. Look! He has finally located his first meal, a sickly gazelle. The creature must make this hunt fast, as he has little energy left in his body. He waits, for that perfect moment... At last he breaks, long powerful strides, he pounces. Moments later he’s on the animal and taking it’s last few second of life away. He Tightens his powerful jaws, as they fill with blood, the struggle ends. Life for our friend has yet again sustained itself for another day, but nothing is certain, in these unforgiving lands of South Africa. As the day winds to an end the creature spies a large tree, there he will spend the wee hours of the night. When finishing his long climb up the massive tree, he instantly falls into a deep sleep. I ask myself, what might he be dreaming about? Perhaps life back home with his mother? Maybe about a previous hunt in past days? Unfortunately we will never know...Have you noticed how he acts as though the world is his kingdom? I have. But little does he know poachers are chasing his trail and are beginning to close in. Snap, snap, crack, branches break. The animal quickly awakens from his deep slumber, only to see four legs, two chests, two sparkling rods of iron and wood, and two human faces gazing upwards in the far off trees. He leaps, his massive body thumps loudly on his paws, alerting the poachers. He runs, not knowing where, not knowing why but on pure instinct to run. Out into the opening of a field and up on a slight mound. He stops. Glares back at the direction of the approaching poachers. He sees them. Opening his enormous mouth he lets out a screeching roar. Almost as though adding to the roar a loud thunderous boom winds across the savanna. The massive animal collapses, stunned, he lie there bleeding out. Unable to move, he slowly goes limp, closes his eyes, and dreams. This time he dreams about his mother, he dreams of her pleasant face, she tells him in her own way that he’s safe, yet he doesn’t hear a sound. He just knows by her presence that everything is okay. The thumping of the creature’s heart begins to slow, then slower, and slower, and then it goes silent. Ceasing, never to beat again. Here lies the final resting place of one of the most magnificent animals, that have ever walked on the face of this unforgiving place, we like to refer to as Earth.
